About Andrew
English is the key to influence in international business. But I do not provide straightforward business English training. I offer influence training – the point where language, register control, and persuasion skills meet.
I help professionals use English when the stakes are high.
There’s a proven gap where business risk and expensive mistakes can happen.
ELAN reports companies are losing millions of euro every year, and executives report direct financial losses from the language gap (Slator). Careers hit a ceiling, where ‘good enough English’ is not good enough.
All these skills are attainable. I started out as an arts graduate and have learned all of this through study, application, and experience. Prior to teaching, I worked in sales, retail, and customer service – and I’ve been in adult education for over twenty years. I bring all of that experience – plus my creativity and expertise in the English language – to helping you and your people bridge the gap.
Throughout my career, I’ve helped international teams overcome English communication obstacles. See what my clients say – people in the pharma industry, recruitment, architecture, government, consulting, finance, banking, manufacturing, IT, and more.
What influence in English looks like
Influence is when your people can find the right words under pressure. When they can keep up with what’s being said between the lines – and turn it to their advantage. They can take objections and turn them into opportunities; and take customer complaints – and create promoters.
Like the hundreds of people who’ve taken my training, your teams will be able to get a point across – in person, on calls, and online. To ask sensitive questions, defuse conflict, and defend a position. All of that, while working effectively with native English-speaking colleagues and stakeholders.
It’s more than corporate English training – it’s a commercial intervention to change how your people will handle international business.
If you’re an L&D professional working with international teams and stakeholders, take a minute to complete the English Friction Snapshot. This will give you a picture of where your people may be at risk of falling into the gap.
FAQ
Who is this training for?
Client-facing international teams, and teams working with native-English stakeholders.
Is this a language course?
Attendees learn how to sound professional, diplomatic, and clear under pressure. But this training focuses on influencing their counterparts. It helps them handle live, high-pressure situations and maintain international business relationships.
What is the English Friction Snapshot?
It’s a 2-minute survey to give you a picture of where your team may be at risk of making expensive mistakes. Once you complete it, I email you a PDF that puts your scores in the influence context. You can see where your team is exposed, and what improvement looks like.
What problems does the workshop address?
One of the biggest gaps for non-native English speakers is understanding verbal cues – which can shift in register rapidly, and sharply. International professionals also struggle with speaking up using the right professional register, especially when it is to disagree or say no to powerful figures. Furthermore, research shows that Central Europeans can be misunderstood as rude, vague, or lacking confidence. This may not be true – but the impression is very strong. My training covers how to manage all of this.
What will participants be able to do after the workshop?
They will be able to handle 8 different typical scenarios, custom-built from your English Friction Snapshot. For example: your people will be able to handle meetings, negotiations, procurement, feedback, and client calls in real time. Not merely ‘good enough’ – but getting the best outcome from each interaction.
How is the workshop designed?
Your inputs on the English Friction Snapshot inform the workshop content. There’s also a consultation with you to confirm the material, define the details, and set KPIs. You’ll have a complete package to use for internal documentation, supporting ROI reporting.
How do we know if it worked?
The workshop includes a check-in session after 30 days. I’ll assess how the attendees have applied what they’ve learned, and give further guidance should they need it.
